Need advice... E GPU with Dell XPS 15 9570

Main Post:

HI guys,

I'm planning to get an RTX 2060 eGPU for my dell XPS 9570 (i5 8300h and Gtx 1050).

Do you think that I will get a significant performance boost from an eGPU compared to my discrete GPU inside my laptop ? Will I be bottleneck by my CPU which is quite weak ?

Considering I can get an eGPU with rtx 2060 for around 500€.

Thanks !

Been there, done that Same xps and gfx card I even bought an external usb c monitor to reduce data double tracking over the very limited TB3 (does some fps damage but not as advertised).

To be honest, it is a significant upgrade from the garbage 1050 however you are losing precious performance potential. Most AAA games with intense graphics will play at border line 60-70fps @1080p max settings . But few games will inexplicably break this rule..they will mostly be the ones you really want to play. Performance isn't quite consistence between different games.

There are sometimes stability issues that you can only work around by trial and error. The egpu unit in general is very bulky for transportation. While I did not intend on using it for such applications it is woth mentioning though.

I ended up buying a compact itx system which will easily surpass this setup and allow me to really get the full potential of the 2060

Do graphics cards come with PCI E power cables?

Main Post:

I'm buying a couple 290x's for my buddy and I tonight and I don't have a second 8 pin connector for my TX650M Corsair PS. I can't remember if my 660 GTX. Came with the 8(6+2) pin it uses.

Thanks ahead of time.

Top Comment: No, they do not.

Does it matter which PCIe slot I put my graphics card in?

Main Post:

I wanted to put my graphics card on the second (lower) PCIe slot of my Asus Rog Strix-F x470. Reviewing video guides, it seems that people normally put them on the top slot, and that most motherboards require this/work best this way.

How can I find out if my motherboard supports putting my graphics card on the lower PCIe slot?

Here's an image of the motherboard. You can see that there are three slots. The slot I want to put my GTX 1070 Ti in is the second one. It says it has 2 PCIe 3.0 x 16 slots, so I assume they're both identical in form and function?

Top Comment: I know this post is 3 years old, but I just swapped my GPU into the slot on the top and it made a huge difference, I was getting like 80 fps in destiny 2 but now I get around 150, if anyone sees this post and this comment, yes. you should put your GPU in the slot at the top
